Naturally Selected Events, Week of August 16

Image via Flickr user BikejujuThis week's outdoor and nature event highlights: cool off at the beach, learn to repair your bike and maybe help out others with your bike-fixin' skills, and teach kids about water conservation (with a bonus ice cream social after!).

Items marked with an asterisk are kid/family-friendly.

Monday, August 16: It's still going to be hot Monday, so why not hit one of our beaches?

Tuesday, August 17, 7pm: FREE! Bike Maintenance Basics at Seattle REI.

Wednesday, August 18, 5:30pm: FREE! Volunteer! Bicycle Fix Party. "Help us help the Cascade Bicycle Club get its Basics of Bicycling BMX bikes back in good order before school starts! These bikes are used in elementary schools to teach bike safety and basic cycling skills. At 5:30pm one of the uber knowledgeable CBC staff members will go over the basics with everyone.... how to pump up the tires, make sure the pedals are attached, etc. and give each repair team a checklist of items to check on each bike. Mechanical knowledge is helpful but certainly not required - this is a great opportunity to learn some bike repair basics while doing some good for others! Pizza and beverages will be provided."

*Thursday, August 19, 6pm: FREE! The Magical Adventures of Aquifer Man. "Ages 5 and older. Faster than a jet of water, more powerful than a raging river and able to leap small streams in a single bound, Aquifer Man shares ways to protect and conserve water using feats of magic and wizardry…Tickets will be available at the library beginning August 3." (Bonus: there's an ice cream social following this too!)
