Naturally Selected Events, Week of August 23

Image via Flickr user Ben TubbyWe wound up with a pretty nice weekend, wouldn't you say? I hope you had a good one and were able to get out and enjoy the sun when it made an appearance.

Here's the round-up of outdoor and nature events this week, which includes a talk on trekking to Nepal, a couple of free nature films, kayaking and a campfire. Have a great time and thanks for reading!

*Monday, August 23: Have you been to the Union Bay Natural Area lately? It's always nice for a quick stroll. Check out the blog of Constance Sidles (who wrote the book on the Fill) to see what wildlife you should keep an eye out for now.

Tuesday, August 24: FREE! Beneath the Salish Sea: An Underwater Odyssey through Puget Sound. "Have you ever wondered what it would be like to swim among the fish and other sea life in Puget Sound? You’ll have an opportunity to find out on Tuesday, August 24 at the screening of Beneath the Salish Sea: An Underwater Odyssey through Puget Sound. The showing is made possible through a partnerships that includes Snohomish County, City of Everett and the Northwest Straits Foundation. Dr. Florian Graner, marine biologist and filmmaker, uses noiseless and bubble-free re-breather technology to create this documentary film, presented in stunning high-definition. Originally filmed to introduce German television audiences to the wonders of our underwater treasures, the film is an extraordinary view of local sea life, including showy nudibranchs, shy octopi, curious seals, ancient ratfish and many others…Admission is FREE. Donations to the Northwest Straits Foundation will be accepted at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Movie begins at 7 p.m. Festival-style seating."
